SKETCHBOOK PICTURE SLEEVES

Sketchbook Picture Sleeves is an on-going project by Ken Eppstein, in which he pairs 7" records with original pieces of cartoon art. The themes vary from record to record, and often have little to do with the lyrics of the song offered. The basic idea is two-fold:

First, it's a play on the idea that picture sleeves for records are essentially cartoons: Images and text used in unison to tell a story. In most cases, the original pic sleeve's story is "buy this record." For Sketchbook Picture Sleeves the story is whatever dumb joke or pun feels right, hopefully avoiding a direct interpretation of the song's true narrative.

Second, the sleeves are meant to elevate 7"s records within collections. The often overlooked hunks of wax become a one of a kind item with value beyond playability.
