Remember how I was happy last month that things were finally moving on some Nix Comics stuff? Well, the good news is that I didn’t lose any ground on that front. The bad news is that July was… a difficult month. My workload for the day-job was intense, five grants had six different reporting deadlines, but I knew that was coming. What I couldn’t see coming was my dog Lucy being attacked by another dog on a family walk one evening. There’s a whole long story, but honestly I’m tired of trilling it. Lucy’s OK. I’m a little dinged up from separating the two animals, but basically OK. Suffice to say, comics mostly took a back seat. Mostly…

RELETTERING:
Nix Western Comics is the first comic I ever lettered myself. I didn’t do a great job. Some would say I didn’t even do an adequate job. The next big chunk of work for rereleasing that material in TPB form is making some adjustments to the Western Lettering. (Mostly Mine.) I was cooking along at 2-3 pages a night before the dog attack. I’m getting back into the groove and expect to have that all done later than sooner.

(A lot of the problem is stuff where I thought I was clever in doing expressionistic effects. Maybe I was clever, but not a good self-editor. Here’s a swing at trying the same thing with a lighter hand.)

NEW SKETCHBOOK PICTURE SLEEVES:
One up side of my traumatic July is that I needed some art therapy. I created 5-6 new sleeves shortly after the dog attack, mostly to see how much it affected my hand. (Not much. In fact its maybe helped me move away from the heavy hand I sometimes have.) I’m around 25 away from enough for a new collected volume, so I’ll be hanging on to the new ones until its time to go on the hustle for a new book.
