Well, the month of June has certainly kept me hopping, accounting for the late update on the month of May. This attendance card from May kind of sums up how I felt for the month in terms of “superhero identity.” It’s me as Ultra Boy from the Legion of superheroes. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the somewhat arcane lore of the LSH, Ultra Boy had all of the powers of Superboy/Superman but could only use one at a time. That’s pretty much how I’ve felt lately, supremely capable of doing one task at a time but only adequate at doing other tasks at the same time. May and June have been really busy months where I had to focus on accelerated summer classes and running a kickstarter. I feel like I’ve done those two things really really well and everything else I’ve been pretty average/typical at.
(Not complaining, just ‘splaining.)
Money Stuff:
May was a slow month in terms of income. First month with no mail order website, my shop at that Poopsheet Mini-Mart managed to eke out one sale. (a copy of JT Dockery and Sexton Ming’s Kenttucky Pussy). Note that there are no fees attached to that sale… It’s still pretty new and site manager Ricko Drofarb is still trying to decide what to charge sellers. I’ve told him that going forward he should take 20% off the top of my sales. (I think that’s more than he’s expecting… But he’s put a lot of work in. I feel like anything less than 20% would be cheap on my part.)
Records Listened to in May 2021
My record listening rate was a little lumpy in the month of May. In the middle of the month the Missus and I took our first post-lockdown road trip out to New Jersey to visit my folks. (The trip also included a Brooklyn record store crawl with good friend and Nix contributor Pat Redding Scanlon. Apologies to other Nix Contributors in NYC, we only had time for one buddy! The rest of the trip was for family.) Anyways… That trip resulted in a few days with no record listening, even though I brought my old portable turntable along for the ride. (To play what I bought in Brooklyn, natch!)
